Inventory Session [27.03.2011]

Assalamualaikum..Ahlan wa Sahlan to our blog... ^^

Yesterday, bureau of PROMARC, BUTEM & COSMO have successfully completed the Inventory Session of IIUM Angklung Club. It was a tiring yet enjoying day for the members of Angklung Club. =)

We were able to polished ALL the angklung + arumba in our training room! Yahoo!!! congratz to all.hehe...

Plus, the subcoms of COSMO & PROMARC has joined together to clean and decorate our training room..

Alhamdulillah, this time we were able to leave our training room in a good conditions before we leave it for the semester break ^^ Thanx for all of the hard work.

Thanx to our super senior Kak Nana & Kak Aton for the visit..and additional credit to Kak Aton for the Domino's..hihi. Mucho Gracias!!! ^^

Mass Gathering + Solat Hajat [25.03.2011]

Assalamualaikum ^^ On last Thursday we held a mass gathering + Solat Hajat for final exam. We started this event at 6.50am with Al-Mathurat recitations led by one of our friends; Haris Fauzi. After that, we wait for azan Maghrib and perform our solah together. We performed our congregational Solat Hajat right after we performed Maghrib prayer.

After the Solat Hajat, our ex-president [Rashid Hamzah] gave an interesting tazkirah about crying..Everyone was enjoyed the tazkirah and able to get new 'ilm tonight. Later then, we performed our Isya' prayer together. This time, Zakwan Kamaruzzaman led our solah..

After we completed our obligation to the AL-KHALIIQ, we had some appreciation session to our senior that already in their final semester.sob.sob.sob..gonna miss you all =(

Then, it has come to the awaiting session after all..Time to eat!!! hehe... We do potluck on that night. So, everyone has to bring their own food to share with all..We had a blast dinner on that night! There are so many mouth-watering food! Alhamdulillah..^^ Everyone was so happy and enjoyed the food ^^

Not to forget, we want to say thank you to our super senior Kak Ida because she has come to enjoy the mass gathering with us.. Thank you for still taking care of us! =) And to the representatives of Andeka Caklempong Club, thanx for coming ^^

QUALITY DAY

Assalamualaikum... ^^

This time our juniors were given the opportunity to perform for Quality Day event which was one of the big events in IIUM in order to appreciate all of IIUM staff. They performed 3 songs which are "Enjit-enjit Semut, Rasa Sayang & Iktiraf" Alhamdulillah..they were able to perform very well even though they just had gone through only one week training. Thanx to PIC of this show Nurul Akmal because she had arrange the training for these juniors and really appreciate her effort for the whole period of training.. ^^

Assalamualaikum...hello guys. Hope all of you stay healthy despite the rainy weather nowadays..We have a new story to share again..^^

About 6.30 am in the morning, with angklung in the hand, our members were rushing from angklung training room to the centre because we were a bit late from the master plan schedule for a big event. We'll be live on MHI (Malaysia Hari Ini) at TV3 today!!!. Yahoo..! A round of applause for us..hehe ^^

After we had a bit of breakfast, at 7.15 am we were already stand by on the stage together with the members of IIUM Percussion Club and Andeka Caklempong Club. We can say that we're lucky on that morning to see how TV crews setting up their things and running here and there to make sure their show runs smoothly. While we were chattering about this and that, we noticed that Wardina Safiyyah was walking towards the MHI's set and she's waving to us with a sweet smile..hihi ^^ She's so pretty and nice..just like we always see her on TV.. Later then, we saw other MHI host like Nurul Syuhada Nurul Ain, Abby Fana, Fedtri Yahya, Ally Iskandar and M.Zul..On that day, Nurul Syuhada & Abby Fana were wearing hijab and they looked very pretty.. ^^

Altogether on the show, we perform 3 songs which are "Bujang Lapok, Joget Pahang & Rasa Sayang " All of our performance were a collaboration with Andeka Caklempong & IIUM Percussion Club and just right before the commercial break. So, overall there were 3 times that we are on screen.hehe.. ^^ Around 8.00 am, we already stand by to perform our first song ~ Bujang Lapok. Half an hour after that, around 8.30 am, we perform "Joget Pahang.." This time, our performance were a bit difference from other performance because we add some choreography to the songs..Alhamdulillah we were able to perform the choreography and the songs very well even though we just practice the choreography on the night before! hihi..Another round of applause for us ^^

Before the MHI ends, Ally Iskandar came to us and asked if we can play another one song to closed up the show.. He also asked us to play the song a little bit longer until they show us the signal to stop.Fortunately, we already prepared "Rasa Sayang" and we just played the song right after the cue.. Alhamdulillah, we're able to perform this song very well too.. ^^

After the MHI show ends, our conductor told us that there were a request if we can perform the songs again..so, we played Bujang Lapok & Joget Pahang happily again as requested and together with a bright of smile to the audience..We received a thunderous applause from the audience.. Alhamdulillah...

*So, to sum up this entry, we would like to thanks to our conductor of the day which is our ex-president Rashid Hamzah for accepting the offer as the conductor, although at first, he refused it.hihi..Thanx so much Rashid..! Plus, we would like to say thank you to Andeka Caklempong Club because they have invited us to perform today and give us the opportunity to perform live on TV.hehe.. And finally, thanks to the IIUM Percussion Club because they are willing to accompanied the angklugianz performance today...^^

Board of Angklung meeting

Assalamu'alaikum

Yeah week 14^th has come, the board of Angklung had their final meeting together with them at the training room. Just 2 of them out of 14 absent, but still they had laugh together during meeting. Like usual, we had go through the meeting just as the agenda planned by our President:

1. Welcoming remarks
2. Update of every single bureau
3. Rising issues
4. Round table
5. Briefing on Solat hajat and mass gathering

After we had highlighted some certain things that are actually should be on our list-to-be-done in this semester, every bureau seems having moderate progress throughout this semester but still the effort clearly can be seen. What our President had always remind us that in whatever case people says negative of our effort it is okay because of the effort you guys gave is actually enough for him. Only Allah will granted you not them inshaAllah. Yet, the President kept reminding us to work more hard on the following tasks given and try not just to fooling around and neglect the responsibilities given which is had already stated by Allah.

I also want to raise up this rising issue about the membership of Angklung Club. Since, throughout this semester the list of ‘sleeping members’ are always keep increase. These people still want us to recognize them as a member of the club but during weekly training, they are not attending at all. Thus, we board of Angklung had decided that for this kind of people we will give them special requirements which are, first they must pay club fees and also buy the club t-shirt. If not, they will be ‘barred’ from the club. Or in other words, they are not club members anymore. That’s all for this time updates.

Thus, as reminder to all members please do come to this event: Solat Hajat Jama’ie for Final Examination & Mass gathering for semester 2, 2010/2011.

And second event is Inventory Session for PROMARC, COSMO & BUTEM bureau. For all members of these bureaus are compulsory to come and other members are invited as well.

Angklung Busking Day

JOURNAL of THE DAY

From IIUM - KL Central - Central Market - IIUM

7.50 am

The subcommittees of Prep&Tech start to make final checklist for angklung while the subcoms of Special Tasks make final checklist for stands and partitur. After that, the members brought down their angklung+stands+partitur to the back door of CAC to load in the cars. Total up, we brought 102 of angklung, 8 music stands and 8 sets of partitur. After that, we had our breakfast and waiting for the cars to arrive.

8.40 am

Around this time, we start to walk from CAC to the first bus stop. Our target is to filled up the seats in the bus so that we can stay in a group.We have to wait around 10-15 mins before the Rapid KL bus to arrive. All of us were managed to get in the same bus.. ^^ Altogether there are 19 of us that ride the bus [including 2 percussionists] while the rest went to KL Central by car. After that we arrived at Putra@Gombak Station and caught the LRT to the KL Central.

9.30 am
Later then, we arrived at KL Central and start to set up the things and get ready for the first time ever busking program. We started to find our angklung and untie them.. At this time, Bapak has also arrived. The location of our busking is at the 2nd floor of KL Central which is in front of the main entrance. The people around started to show interest when we begun to place the music stands one by one. All of us were very nervous but still trying to act cool.hehe... ^^

10.30 am - 12.30 pm

We start to perform our first song which is Joget Pahang around 10.30 am. The first song is quite messed up.haha...due to the nervousness maybe? Then, we played the 2nd song~Rindu Bayangan by Jay Jay. [one of Fatin favourite songs and me too ^^] Followed by Besame Mucho ~ a Spanish song, Ada Apa Denganmu by Peterpan and Love Story. While we were performing, there are other four members under the committee of Prep&Tech and Special Task who were assigned to distribute the pamphlets about our club to the audience.

After we played Malam Bulan Dipagar Bintang by P.Ramlee & Saloma, we took a rest for about 15-20 mins. During this rest time, the audience were able to asked about our club, trying to play angklung and taking pictures with the angklung. There are also some audience who are interested to buy angklung and asked us how much of the cost. *For your information, angklung comes altogether in one set that consist of 62 angklung [if I'm not mistaken] including the bass and melody. And there are also a set of angklung that consist of the melody only. The cost for one set of angklung is about RM10 000 and above. It's very expensive isn't it? That's why we really take care of our angklung. ^^

After the rest, we continue playing the remaining songs which are Iktiraf by Raihan, Pandang-pandang Jeling-jeling by Dato' SM Salim & Siti Nurhaliza, Cindai by Siti Nurhaliza and our final song ~ Kopi Dangdut. We finished the performance around 11.25 am. Then, we gather our angklung and start to tie them again to move to other destination ~ Central Market. However due to the several circumstances, we were stucked at KL Central until 12.30 pm.

CENTRAL MARKET

12.45 pm - 3.00 pm

We took LRT from KL Central to Central Market and it just took 5-10 mins to arrive there. Even though the players has arrived, but the cars that brought our angklung and percussion's stuff were stuck in the traffic jam. So, we have to wait for them for about 20 mins. When we got a text that the cars has arrived, we went to the Central Market's car park to unload the angklung and other stuff. We start to set up the place for the performance and placed our music stands there. After that, all of us took some time to perform our Zuhr Prayer and had our lunch.

3.00 pm - 4.30 pm

Here, we were provided with the PA system. Plus, before we begin our performance, we were introduced to the audience to attract more people and as a result, people start to circulating us. We start to perform Joget Pahang, followed by Rindu Bayangan, Besame Mucho, and other songs like what we have performed at KL Central this morning. After each of the songs finished, we get a tremendous applause from the audience.

As at the KL Central, four of us were assigned to distribute the phamplets to the audience.. The audience give good feedback and are enjoyed with our performance especially the tourists from outside of Malaysia. They show a lot of interest about angklung & percussion and tried to play the instruments. We finished our performance around 3.38 pm. After giving some time to the audience to ask, taking pictures and tried to play the angklung, we begin to clean up our stuff and tie the angklung.

4.30 pm -6.00 pm

At 4.30 pm, all of us had already in the Metro Bus to go back to IIUM. This bus will go straight into the campus, so we don't need to change our transport anymore.. All of us were very tired yet still happy and proud with ourselves because we have completed one of our programs.^^ The Metro Bus took about one hour to reach our campus. We stopped at the second bus stop because we have to continue our busking program with the post-mortem session at our training room. Before we proceed with the post-mortem session, we took some time to perform our Asr prayer at CAC's musolla.

6.01 pm - 7.30 pm

Promptly at 6.01 pm, we begin our post-mortem session...At this session, everyone must talked and spoke out everything that they felt not right during this busking program so that the members can improve in organizing other programs. This post-mortem session ended right after the azan for Maghrib prayer ends. Thus, that's the end of our Busking Program on 6 of March 2011. This day will be one of our memorable day in life... ^^

Assalamualaikum.Hello guys..sorry for the late updates.

Last Sunday on 6 of March our club had a busking program at KL Central and Central Market. It was one of our club activities under TDEV bureau. Alhamdulillah the busking program was ran as planned, plus all the members who joined the busking day were enjoyed and really have fun together...^^

There were 24 members + 4 percussionists from IIUM Percussion Club that joined the busking program. We played 11 songs in both KL Central and CM; and the songs are :

Despite the hot weather on that day, the show was conducted by our beloved instructor himself, Bapak Dadang Mochamad Soleh. Thank you, Bapak. ^^

This busking program was a success and it has reached the objective of the program which is to bring our club well known to the public. Plus, the performance got a very good feedback from the audience. The audience are clapping loudly after each song we played finish and taking videos and pictures during the performance. There were also some audience that asked how to invite us perform for their functions..^^

Alumni IIUM show, KLCC

Assalamu'alaikum

On 27^th of February, we had our most fabulous performance at KLCC for “Majlis Bersama Pemimpin Sempena Dermasiswa Alumni IIUM”. The event was held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center and was officially launched by our Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Hj Abd Razak.

We start our training since 2 weeks before the event was held and there were 13 songs we played together. Some of the songs are:

Kopi Dangdut, Ada Apa Denganmu, Rasa Sayang, Enjit-enjit Semut, Rindu Bayangan, Love Story, Bujang Lapok. Geylang Si Paku Geylang, Pandang-pandang Jeling-jeling, Besame Mucho and etc.

The preparation for the event was so pack with full day training and repeatedly playing the songs. But still the preparation was full with those giggling among the performer itself. We had truly happiness among us :D The performance was collaborate with other cultural clubs which some of it are the Percussion Club and Andeka Caklempong Club.

We depart from IIUM at 10.30am and arrived to the KLCC at 11.15am. As we arrived we were placed all of our stuffs at the dressing room provided by the organizer. Immediately after that we had full rehearsal together with the MC and the organizer itself.

Later on, the event started on 7.45pm with our team busking at the exhibition area out of the ballroom 1. We had our busking session lasting for 30 minutes together with the Percussion Club. Oh yeah, while we were performing during busking, guess what?! The most famous and handsome singer nodding to us, he is Maher Zain!! Woah, it was such a great performance and experienced for us, performing Angklung in front of the VVIPs which is some of them are our Prime Minister, former Prime Minister – Tun Mahathir Mohamad, Professor Kamal Hassan, Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansur, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah and etc. and also together in front of Maher Zain. Our performance on that day was conducted by our beloved super senior; Kak Fai. *Thanks Kak Fai..despite your busy schedule, you still agree to help us. Thank you so much.. We love you ^^

Lastly we packing our stuffs and tied up the Angklung and just get ready back to IIUM. We depart back to IIUM on the late night about 12.30am. Everyone seems so tired but still full of happiness faces.

Inventory session

On Saturday evening after the rigorously training with Training and Development Bureau (TDEV), a day before the Angklungians who join performance at KLCC perform which will be held on Sunday 27^th February, they are having their first inventory session in this semester. For your information, the inventory session is a slot where the club members polish their own Angklung using oil and tissue. The purpose of polishing the Angklung is to make Angklung looks more shiny so that people would mesmerized with those Angklung. But not all Angklung they had polish it during that evening, just some of it that will be using for KLCC performance since time really constrain.

The members who join this inventory session had a very happy time together laughing and get socialized to each others. This kind of activity make the members themselves feel attach together and strengthen their ukhuwwah. Alhamdulillah.

InshaAllah the inventory session would continuously in progress after this to maintain the instrument itself so that the Angklung that we used would produce better sound during our training and performance. We are very hopeful that we could maintain all the Angklung in a better ways as to reminisce the effort of the previous seniors before to get few sets of Angklung.

New costume for performance

About last two weeks, Assistance of COSMO bureau (Costume and Cleanliness) sis. Intan and some of the board of Angklung which is our Vice President, sis. Sarah Liyana, General Secretary, sis. Fatin Nadhirah, Assistance of TDEV (Training and Development), sis. Musahhadah and bro. Haris which is one of the club members also. Actually he act as our driver during that day! Alhamdulillah, Allah make our journey easy ;)

We went to the First Lady boutique at Jalan TAR to buy the girls dress and went through most of the shops at there to find out boys’ sampin and brooch to put on their songkok. Phuh! It was actually terrible day, being all around the Jalan TAR with the hot temperature and lots of people are crowded there.

Alhamdulillah we found the things we want for our club; the nice and elegance blue baju kebaya, sampin and the brooch. It is actually been for ages the club didn’t buy new costume for performance. Thus, this time InshaAllah the dress we bought would satisfied all the members wearing it and feel comfortable and also feel confidence while playing Angklung.

Oh yeah, here some pictures I attach together during our journey only for the sake of IIUM Angklung Club. Enjoy! : )

First of all we would like to apologize for leaving this blog stagnant for a while. We are truly sorry for not updating the activities happened in our club. Actually, our club is active as always and last week we just had a new intake session. Our weekly training on Monday and Tuesday also running as planned, even though sometimes we have to cancel our training due to several circumstances.

We are currently in the process of upgrading the blog,InsyaALLAH...but please do not put high expectation from us.

MAKUM Opening and Closing Ceremony

This time, the Angklung Club presented the younger members of the club to perform in the national event "Pesta Pantun MAKUM". Eleven members played upbeat "Madu dan Racun" and "Ketipang Payung" for the opening ceremony.
While the others who performed for the closing ceremony showed their skill playing the remix version of "Tahajud Cinta", "Dawatee Ibrahim" and "Sayyidi Maulai" which was performed during IPAC "Love Is" 2010.
Both performances were conducted by Cikgu Ku Zahir.

Intermahallah cultural and debate week Show

13 Angklung members rocked the hall with 'Bujang Lapok' after a speech from IIUM rector in the closing ceremony of Intermahallah Cultural and Debate Week. Conducted by Pak Dadang, the evergreen song was performed without the help of partitur.
The performance had also include the use of 'angklung berdiri', played by Sister Nurasikin. A collaboration with Percussion Club, this is our first performance at CAC this semester.
The event had also include performances from Zapin Club and Ummul Qura'.

After the event, performers had a meal of Western dinner.

IAC Induction Day

IAC members started to crowd Econs cafe at 7 in the morning. They were served with light breakfast of sandwiches and hot tea. Right after the meal, members; divided into groups joined an aerobic session conducted by the committees. The session was followed by talks by the mainboard and briefing by the head committees. Group activities was sequenced right after according to the earlier division. IAC trainer, Pak Dadang was then given a moment to talk about angklung and its cultural background before lunch and solat break.

The catering committees has also served lunch to the participating members. The program commenced at 2 with in-group activities where the members were asked to choose a group name, and create a cheer and a trademark for their group; then present it to other groups. There were mini games just before the members disperse for prayers and prepare for the night's cultural show.

The cultural show was very much entertaining although they were given very short time to prepare. Right after a mini game, dinner was ready and members were ushered to the nearby cafe for dinner. The prize giving was held during dinner; well, everybody has their share.

The program ended roughly at 11. A post mortem was held right after.

It started right after Isya' with Brother Rasyid welcoming the new members and introducing himself, followed by the mainboards and head committees. The treasurer then explained about the annual fees and other matters related to the financial standing of the club. Afterwards, the secretary briefed on the activities conducted last semester.

The mass gathering proceeded with the members divided into beureaus, followed an enclosed beureaus briefing and ice-breaking and sharing sessions.

The project manager of the Induction Day had the opporturnity to discuss the program with the members and reminded everyone to be present on Sunday, 27th December.

The night's gathering ended with the members paying the induction day and annual club fees.

It was quite chaotic, especially the busking sessions. The project manager extend much apologies. However, all things considered, it went quite well, despite a somewhat handicap in the managing system *apology*

About 50 new members were recruited, 97% being the first year students. Most new members are female, but there were quite a number of male members. It was very much anticipated that the new recruitment will prove to be dedicated.

IIUM Angklung Club AGM Report

The AGM was conducted smoothly despite a late start. It was initiated with do'a recitation, followed by reports by the club's treasurer and secretary. The club proved to have unanimous trust for Rasyid to be the club's president as he was once again elected and won the seat. (Oh, that started to sound political which is queer). The mainboard does not change much with only few ammendments which are hoped to be much more effective. Muhd Zulhilmi shone as the most popular member as he won most of the 'awards'. There was dinner cum birthday bash for members whose birthdays were on November till March.

The floor dispersed at about 11 pm after a quick post mortem.

Conducted and trained by Sis Fairuz, 19 Angklung members had perform 4 songs, accompanied by percussion and band. This was our first performance entertaining the Sultan as well as our first performance, performing Hari Raya song. With only 2 days training, we managed to do our best and received good feedback from the audiences.

Cultural Grand Iftar was our last oppened program for this semester. It was attended by 10 cultural clubs in IIUM. The program start with reciting ma’thurat and followed by breakfast with kurma and tea. We had a congregational Maghrib prayer and continue our breakfast with heavy meal. During our meal, there was a slideshow video showing all cultural members during our oppened program. Then we had our Isya’ Congregational prayer followed by Tarawikh prayer. The program ended with moreh after the Tarawikh prayer. IIUM Angklung Club members were very happy since they could gather all cultural members during this grand iftar.

Overall, our performance satisfies us since we manage to do the best eventhough we have only a very short training.

Cultural Team Promotion Show is another oppened program. It is a mini concert, where 9 other cultural clubs join this program. With its goal to promote and introduce cultural Clubs in IIUM, IIUM Angklung Club has arranged a continuously performance by various cultural clubs in IIUM. Trained by Bapak Dadang and conducted by Sis Wahida, Angklung members had performed love story and kopi dangdut accompanied by percussionist and rasa sayang was performed in collaboration with Gamelan, Cak Lempong, Percussion and other members sing along and make the night more lively.It was hosted by 2 representatives from Poetry Club. Eventhough it was raining, but the program could meet its objective with the full support from IIUM Angklung members, other cultural clubs and S-dev.

Talk on Ethics and Morality in Music was organized by IIUM Angkliung Club. It was an oppened program for all IIUM students. Almost 70 students attend this program. The talk was given by Dr Azlee. Dr Azlee stress why people in art stream have to think positive and discuss about personality and effort. Dr Azlee was very spontaneous in delivering his speech. The program become more interesting when the participants respond to the motivator.

Istana Budaya…..prestigious place to uphold the culture and art to the world class. A lot of high class performances, local and international have been held there and got attention from all over walk of life citizens. Puteri Gunung ledang, Impak Maksima The Musical, and lot more prove the great achievement of Istana Budaya. To give the awareness, experience and indirectly to give moral motivation and challenges to the Angklungianz, Angklung Club on 31th July 2009 has organized educational trip to the Istana Budaya.

We got support from 36 participants from Angklung Club and other culture clubs for this programme. We departed from IIUM around 2.45pm after solat Jumaat prayer, and took just about half an hour to arrive at the Istana Budaya. Istana Budaya’s officer greet and warmly welcoming us as their visitors and give full support for this kind of programme. They briefly explain on the management and the technical part of the Istana Budaya’s operation. After short corporate video presentation and briefing, the best part come. We were on the site…. Especially for the first time comer to the Istana Budaya, they were very impressed with the architecture and the elegant design of the Panggung Sari ( main theatre hall). Everyone got the experience to sit on the VIP’s sit even for couple of minutes and free!!

Next, we were bring to the stage which make us more impressed with the high technology of the equipment and movement stage. But we were a bit disappointed because cannot watched by our own eyes the movement of the stage live. They were having rehearsal and final preparation for Jamal Abdillah concert. More explanation from the technician on the technical part attracted engineering students and could be said attract some of the participants to have practical training and maybe working at Istana Budaya!

VOLUNTEER AT ZOO NEGARA

IIUM Angklung Club had organized a Zoo Negara Volunteer Programme which aims at providing a close relation between human and wildlife by learning to understand their needs and social behaviour.
Smiley Face By working hand in hand with the zookeepers, this programme builds up the students’ self-confidence and spirit through the community services activity which raises awareness to the wildlife conservation. Apart from this, we also had the chance to explore the works and duties of zookeepers by assisting them on daily routines.

The Students were divided into two groups where Group 1 consists of 17 angklung players and 3 percussionists. This group volunteered as performers at Zoo Negara on that day, performing to visitors and zoo inhabitants. Our performance started as early as 8.30 a.m and ended as late as 4.30 p.m with a few breaks in between the performances. We played two to three songs at each stop/check points; Savannah Walk, Ape Centre, Lake Birds, Reptile Park, Malaysian Elephants, Bear Complex, Zoo Negara’s Main Entrance, Animal Show, Cat Walk etc. We played Ketipang Payung, Bosame Mucho, Rasa Sayang, Medley When The Saint Go Marching and You Are My Sunshine, Medley Mary Had A Little Lamb and Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star, Enjit-Enjit Semut,Poco-Poco and Kopi Dangdut. All the zoo visitor were entertained by us and lots of people were so excited to see us play angklung because it is not a common musical instrument and therefore one of our objectives which is to promote angklung to people is a success. BRAVO!

On the other hand, Group 2 which consists of members of all cultural clubs; Theatre, Gamelan, Caklempong, Umul-Qura, Zapin, Poetry, Dikir Barat, and Angkung were assigned with community services work. They were then were divided by the Zoo Nrgara’s Education Department into groups of five or six students. Their volunteering activities involved promoting the zoo inhabitants to visitors, cleaning the habitats, feeding them and provide their needs. Each group was assigned to certain area such as follows; Great Apes, Monkeys/Lesser Apes, Aquarium, Hoof Stock, Birds Aviary, Animal Show, Children’s World, Hospital, Reptile Park, Bear Complex and Cat Walk.
This programme helped us in improving our communication skills and building and strengthening our self-esteem. It also inspires our spirit through community services and raises awareness on the importance of wildlife conservation. Through this programme we have learned many new things about wildlife and we also understood their needs and natural habitat.
Alhamdullilah, this programme is a success. Thanks to all participants especially to performers because though it was tiring but all of you gave the best commitment for the training and the volunteering work for this programme. Thank you...

INDUCTION DAY

Last Saturday, we held an Induction Day for the new members.
Smiley Face The program started at 7.15 am with the registration at the Convest Hill. After breakfast, all members did some aerobics and warming up. Then, after a 5 minutes break we proceed to next activity which is “ice breaking”. Next, we played some games. We were divided into three groups which is a mix of the new and old members. The groups are named “Malu-Malu”, “Action Beep” and “Keliwon”.The first game called “Setiaku Korbankan” is won by “Malu-Malu” ,the second game called “Straw dan Getah” won by “Action Beep” , the third game called “Semakin Jauh Semakin Sayang” won by “Malu-Malu” and the last game called “Spider Web” won by “Keliwon” . Then we proceed to the slot "Sharing Moment". For this slot we opened the session to the new members to voice out anthing they want to say about the club and other members and also to share their experiences. At 12.00 pm we had lunch and break.
We started our program again at 2.15 pm. All committees were ready at their check-point for the ExploreRace game. There are five check points; at Nusaibah stairs, Clinic, Basketball Court, The Lake and HS Square. We finished the race and the Induction Day at around 5.00 pm.

Afterwards, the old members had a short training at training room to prepare for the rehearsal at Zoo Negara the next day. At 7.00 pm, we started our preparation for the BBQ night. While waiting the meal, the participants had to perform their tasks that have been given earlier in the afternoon. The BBQ night ended with the prize giving ceremony and taking pictures.
We finished at around 11.00 pm and then proceed with the training for rehearsal at Zoo Negara. We went back to our room at around 1.00 am.
Here I would like to say thank you for the new members gave contribution for the Induction day. Hopefully all of you enjoy all the activities we planned for the day. For senior members, though all of you felt so tired, congratz on your excellent commitment to prepare for two programs (Induction Day & Zoo Negara) in a short of time. All of you have done a good job! Lets fight together! Ya!(trade mark kak aton)….

Last week S-Dev had organized Cultural Village at Terachi, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, a program participated by all IIUM cultural clubs (Gamelan, Caklempong, Angklung, Zapin, Percussion, Poetry, Band, Theatre, Ummul Qura', Dikir Barat and Nasyid) joined together with Dun Seri Menanti Service Center for four days with the theme “One Malaysia: Uniformity in Diversity”. The program is for the students to learn and be indulged with the customs and culture of the people in Negeri Sembilan.

We departed from IIUM at 12.00 pm and arrived there at around 4.00 pm. The opening ceremony inauguration was completed by Y.B Tuan Abdul Samad Ibrahim (Adun Seri Menanti). Afterwards, all the participants was distributed to the foster families of two or three students for each foster family. After the opening ceremony, all participants went back with their foster family for Ice-Breaking. On the first day, the time is spent with with foster families. Fortunately, during our visit, it was still fruit seasons so there are fruits everywhere on trees such as manggis,rambutan,jambu air and the most wanted, durian.

For the second day, after the “senam tari” in the morning we were divided into three groups. The first group is assigned to the secondary school, second group is assigned to primary school and third group is assigned to attend Caklempong Workshop. We went back to our foster family house after the program ended. Around 3.00 pm we gathered back at the Perkampungan Budaya Terachi for cultural night preparation. At night, we have a full rehearsal until 12.00 pm. Everyone looked so tired but managed to give a good commitment. Well done everyone!

On the third day, we started our day with “senam tari” and then we were divided again into two groups in which the first group will go to Muzium Istana Seri Menanti for its 100 years day (jubli Emas) and the other group is aasigned to help the villagers in cooking and preparing for the Kenduri Kesyukuran called “merewang”.
Smiley Face The kenduri started at 8.30 pm. After the VIP gave his speech, all cultural teams were ready to perform accordingly with Yayasan Negeri Sembilan. For the closing, all cultural teams collaborated to perform “Rasa Sayang”. Alhamdulillah the event went well and we received good feedback from the locals.

Smiley Face We stayed there for about four days and three nights and it is long enough to make us feel close with our foster families but we still have to depart. We depart to IIUM at around 11.00 am. Before we had a long journey to IIUM, we stopped at Ulu Bendul for lunch. We arrived at IIUM at 4.20 pm.
All participants were tired but enjoyed the program. It is a good program as through this program we had the chance to get to know other members of cultural clubs and share our knowledge. This program also helps IIUM’s cultural team to be exposed to outsiders.

THE WEDDING

Assalamualaikum.....
We thought that our performance at MHI will be our last performance for this semester, but Alhamdulillah we received another invitation to perform at a wedding (Wardina's sister's wedding). It is so challenging because the wedding is during our examination period. The night before the event, we went to the place for a rehearsal. We departed from IIUM at 8 pm. While we waited for our turn, we had some practice outside the hall. This performance is also a challenge because it is our first time to play (Bosame Mucho) while walking into the hall. What we can be said is that, we did badly for the rehearsal just because there are some misunderstanding among us.
Smiley Face But we didn't give up easily and we kept practicing. We went back to UIA at about 11 pm.

On the day of the wedding, we departed from IIUM at 10.30 am. We felt so nervous because this is the wedding in which it is a memorable event especially for the bride, groom and their family. We don’t want to be the spoiler of their memory, so we tried our best.
Smiley Face Our nervous level increased when we entered the hall because everybody was quiet and looking at us. We played Bosame Mucho and Rasa Sayang. Alhamdulilah we received a great applause in the hall even though we didn't play perfectly.
Smiley Face After the performance, all the butterflies and nervousness in our bodies were gone.

Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to play the other songs that we had practiced due to the short of time. We felt a little frustrated about that

Smiley Face Then we were invited to enjoy the meal (delicious!). Before we went back to the IIUM, we took some pictures (our 'MUST TO DO' routine after performances..hehehe). Everybody looked fatigue but there are still smiles on their faces. We enjoyed the day and it was an amazing experience.

Last Wednesday, Angklung Group was given a chance to perform at TV3 for MHI (Malaysia Hari Ini) which is one of famous live morning show in Malaysia. This is the biggest greatest offer that we received so far and we are so happy
Smiley Face. We were informed about the MHI show last Monday so we don’t really have much time to practice. We started our training A.S.A.P on the same night we received the news.
Smiley Face. We practiced eight songs namely Enjit2 Semut, Rasa Sayang, When The Saint Goes Marching, You Are My Sunshine, Bujang Lapok, Poco2 and Kopi Dangdut. This performance is quite a challenge because we need to memorize all the song by heart as there might not be enough space for us to put our note and stand
Smiley Face. Alhamdulillah we memorized the songs in just two days. We departed from IIUM at 6.30am and arrived at about 7.30am. This is our first time in the studio and we were so excited. When we arrived, the show has already started and we took our place to arrange everything before they asked us to perform. Alhamduliilah everything went well. After the show, we took pictures with the celebrities that come on that day like Adibah Noor, Anggun and Wardina etc.
Smiley Face. After breakfast at TV3 studio we went back to IIUM. From this performance we have learned a lot. We realized the importance of memorizing the songs, to deliver the songs with the right facial expression, and to enjoy the songs that we played. Nonetheless, this is the sweetest memory for this semester and forever.......Thanks to all!!

Salam and hye to everyone…

Last Saturday (7th march), Angklung Group has been invited to perform at Asiah Victory Award (AVA). This event was held as an appreciation for Mahallah Asiah’s residents who give excellent performance not only in curriculum but also co-curriculum.

We have the chance to perform at the Banquet Hall in Admin Building. The program started around 8.30 pm after the arrival of the VIPs. It started with the gimmick from Silat Seni Cekak IIUM,
Smiley Face who performed martial arts with all the knives and sticks. This way, the Malay’s strength and macho-ness showed.

After hearing the speech from all the VIPs, Angklung Group were finally ready to perform a total of 4 songs while the audiences enjoyed their dinner. We performance started with a ‘Compulsory’ song from Angklung Group, Enjit- Enjit Semut. Followed by Bujang Lapok, then the ballad song "Rindu Bayangan". The last song was Rasa Sayang.. Even the emcee of the day sang the songs that we played.

Then, it was finally ‘makan time’ after the performance. Everyone was really happy because we could gave all our best in the performance. It is normal and very important for Angklung Group members to have photography session. The event was a bit of a ’chaos’ because most members of the Angklung Group are "GIGAM (Haha...). One by one the camera flashed to capture the memorable event.

Cool…. after about 2 days of practice, Angklung Group successfully performed well even though it was the first time for the new members to play some of the songs. Even Bapak, could smile while conducting the performance….that’s a good sign
Smiley Face. Alhamdulillah, we gain lot of praises from the audiences and the committees. But, we have to remember the Angklung Group motto, ‘Jangan Riak’……

Thanks to all the seniors who still could spend their time performing together with us.. Also not to forget other members, who have to sacrifice the holiday to make this performance a good one..

GOTONG-ROYONG

Today, Friday 20th February 2009, Angklung Club organized “gotong-royong” which had been postponed so many times for valid acceptable reasons and today it is like “a dream come true” to finally see it happen.
Smiley Face We started our “gotong-royong” at about 3.30 p.m. We cleaned up our training room together and helped each other. We polished all of the angklung sets that we have with the special oil(to maintain the condition of angklung and make it more shiny), indexed and numbered the angklung, patch things on the wall, made inventory for clothes, keep the patitur in order (the notes) etc. We enjoyed doing our work together and we can see lots of smiles today.

STUDENT CARNIVAL

Last week, IIUM organized Student Carnival which also known as Cocu-Week whereby all clubs in IIUM joined together and open a booth to proudly present their clubs to all students and visitors. This includes Angklung Club and we were so proud to present our club and be a part of the event.

We opened our booth at 10 a.m until 5.30 p.m everyday (Thursday-Saturday). At booth, our members who were on duty entertained the students and IIUM staff that visited our booth and let them try to play angklung. Alhamdulillah, our booth is one of the booths that received good respond from students and staff. It’s good and exciting to see when Angklung members wore baju of the same colour everyday for the week.
Smiley Face. We played Enjit-enjit Semut and Bujang Lapok on Thursday and Friday accompanied by Percussion Club. On saturday, angklung had a collaborated performance with other Cultural Clubs namely Caklempong, Percussion, Zapin and Gamelan for the opening ceremony which was attended by all the VIPs. We played Cindai, Medley Ketipang Payung Joget Pahang and Wau Bulan. To be honest, we didn’t perform well for the two earlier songs. Kak Fai admonished our mistakes after the performance and we took her advice with an open heart and took as a motivation to perform better for the next performance(
Smiley Facetq kak fai). During the VIPs' visit to our booth, we played the Enjit-Enjit Semut and also showed them how to play angklung. At 2.30 p.m, we had another collaborated performance with all the cultural groups. We played the songs Tuhan and Iktiraf during the performance. Alhamdulillah, the performance was great and a better one. Thanks to the audiences for watching our performance from the beginning until the end even the day even though it was quite hot. MASS GATHERING

It is two hours before midnight and it was only a few hours ago that we had mass gathering to welcome the new members. Congratulation (
Smiley Face) for those who are selected and for those who are not, thank you for your participation. We really appreciate it. The gathering started with ice-breaking. Some of them have a unique nicknames like Ito, Feri, Payung etc. It’s really interesting. Then we proceed to Q&A session. The hot topic that we discussed was about fees (hehe...money have power to make people talk). Our training room was at peace again after a clear explanation about it from our president and supported by kak atun (our ex-president). Next, we separated them into four groups according to four bureaus that we have (T-Dev, Cosmo, Promarch and Butem) to become the sub-com of each bureau and also for them to learn the sof-skills. So, everybody in this club have position and a job to do. Each head of the bureau explained about the job scope of their bureau to their sub-com during the group meeting. Before we went back, we took some pictures together (with each bureau) as prove of our first meeting (

This semester, the majority of angklung senior members are going to graduate or already graduated, which left us with only a hand full of members. Therefore, the club organized a week of recruitment to recruit new members. We did some promotions a week before to promote how great Angklung Club is. Flyers and handbills are posted and given out throughout UIA in promoting people to join our club. We also did some buskin (playing angkung=jamming) at Human Science Cafe to attract more participation and at the same time to let students know what is angklung and how to play it. We played Rasa Sayang, When the Saint Go Marching, You Are My Sunshine and Bujang Lapok. We didn’t practice these song beforehand, so we were quite nervous to play it 'LIVE' but when we stayed together, the confidence came and everything was going well. Alhamdulillah, we got about 53 participants!!! All of them were interviewed according to the criteria that are stated by S-Dev and the club. The most important criteria that we stresses on in the interview is the individual's commitment towards the club as we need to work in a team especially during peformance. Salam to all members of ‘gigil orchestra’…….

As we’ve planned, we continued the recording session with Cikgu Ku Zahir. But the number of members joining the recording was a bit small compared to the previous week. On Saturday, supposedly we started at 2 pm, but due to some problems we started around 3pm. The first song recorded on that day was Joget Pahang. We used the ‘big patitur’ coz we don’t have the note for Joget Pahang since we only have the medley of Joget Pahang. Around 5 pm, we were done with the song. After that we continue with the second song, Lambada. This song is quit ‘scary’ to be played. We were having difficulties on the ‘intro part’. Yeah, we can’t lie during the recording! But because of the supports from all members towards each other and Cikgu we finally managed to make it. Big hand of applause for all the members. Everyone were really hungry because of those songs. Then we took a break for dinner and Maghrib prayer. For the night slot, we recorded Terajana. One of the ‘favorite song’ of angklung members. Alhamdulillah, we made it.

Next day, on Sunday the last two ‘horror’ songs waited for us. We started on 12pm.We have the practice for love story song on Main Hall stage because we didn’t want to interrupt Cikgu who want to arrange new music for Love Story. The arrangement of new Love Story was a bit different from the training. As usual, recording was done line by line started around 2pm. After the recording was finished, we were all really ‘fall in love’ with the song. With the addition of other instrument, the song sounds good. Around 5.30pm we finished up with the song. Then we took a break for Asar prayer, dinner and Maghrib prayer. We continued the recording for the last song, Kopi Dangdut around 8pm. Everyone played angklung which has been assigned by the second Cikgu, ‘Cikgu Amy’. Around 10pm, finally all the hard work were paid of by the feeling of satisfaction for completing the recording. And now we know how hard it is to record a song and how ‘fake’ the artist can be. hehe……

Last weekend, we had an Angklung recording at gamelan training room in which it was conducted by Cikgu Ku Zahir. Based on the schedule, we were supposed to record ten songs. However, due to the lack of time, we recorded only a total of five songs for this week as the recording is not as easy as we thought. One thing that we've learn about recording Angklung is that the songs are recorded line by line instead of recording the whole lines all together at one go. We started our recording session on Saturday at 2p.m. The recording began with Enjit-Enjit Semut (our master piece song...hehe), then followed by Bosame Mucho. After that, we had a break and went for dinner together and continued the recording at 8.15 p.m with Bujang Lapok and finished at around 10p.m. On Sunday, we started our recording session at 10 a.m with Rindu Bayangan. Cikgu Ku Zahir had modified the song by adding the choir (which are actually OUR BEAUTIFUL voices) for the background of the intro to make the song nicer and enjoyable. Actually, our voices did not reach the level, but because of the power of technology, everything was good and impressive. In the middle of the recording, Cikgu gave us some useful tips on how to be a good angklung player and InsyaAllah we will implement these tips that were given to us.

After a short break, we continued the recording with Poco-Poco and then finished at 6p.m. Though we were tired since the recording took hours just to finish one song, the whole recording thing was great and it was such an amazing(words that Cikgu always said) experience and we enjoy the days. Special thanks to Kak Sarah, Kak Wahida, Kak Paeja and Kak Wawawawa for coming and joining the recording session even though all of them are already graduated from IIUM. It shows that they still have the IAG spirit in their soul. We are going to have another recording next weekend to record the remaining five songs. InsyaAllah we will do our best. Today IIUM ANGKLUNG GROUP members had a day out together at Kuliyyah of IRKHS. Like an induction course, but with little formality, the program focused more on the new members of IAG and its objective is to bring the members closer to each other and to create a strong bond between them. Also, the members learned what is important for the club and what kind of attitudes should the members instill when facing hardships and conflicts.
The day began with Stretching Dance conducted by Raja Nurwahida Adleen before the members got seperated by the committees fro ice-breaking sessions. In the sessions the members were taught to be themselves and be creative in expressing their ideas.
Then as the day went the members played Treasure Hunt, where they were given the directions in riddles and they need to complete tasks. There's no treasure to hunt, really. It was the messages hidden in the tasks given which soon the members needed to explain during the presentations before the program ended.
Overall, the members understood the tasks and the objectives for this program. Many advises from the seniors to the new members and it is hoped that every little things learnt from this program will bekept in the hearts of the members and the bonds between them remain strong until the end which will bring the club to success, Insya Allah.

IIUM Angklung Group was given the chance once again to perform for CONVEST '08. On that day, the group in which only 15 members performing on the first night of the event that will last at the end of the month.
Without many audiences came and watched the night's performance, the group started the performance with 3 songs before they had a Merdeka trivia for the audiences in which they need to answer the questions given by the group member to get the special gifts prepared for them. The other three songs followed after the session.
Overall, the beginning of the performance was not good enough. However it turned out to be a well done show on the second half of the show.
It is important for the members to know that focus during any perofrmance is important, so that the show will be good enough for the audience to enjoy and thus will promote the musical group to the people outside. All in all, thank you for the participation.

On August 9th 2008, IIUM Angklung Group performed for AIKOL Cultural Night which is the closing event for AIKOL Fest. As early as 7.45 pm, 30 members of Angklung Group gathered at KAED Auditorium and were prepared with their musical instruments as to give the best performance to the audience. The members were also excited and eager to perform for the event as there will be a performance by a very special guest.
While waiting for the VIPs, IAG presented 3 songs to the waiting audience, Enjit-Enjit Semut, Lambada and Besame Mucho. Though the performance was short, the members received a thunderous applause and cheers from the audience which consist of students from other universities.
The event began at around 8.30 pm with a speech from ????? of AIKOL. Among other performances was a play presented by Theatre Club, Marhaban recitation and special performance by a former rock star, Ramli Sarip. His poetic yet energetic performance created a tremendous and memorable event to the audience. Even though the members of IAG were a bit disappointed as they were asked to leave the hall early to be in position for the next performance, however, they were able to capture the memorable performance presented by Ramli Sarip.
The songs played by the members were Rindu Bayangan, Getaran Jiwa, Ketipang Payung and Tanah Pusaka. The IAG’s performance was accompanied by the IIUM Percussion Group and the rhythmic contra bass played by a member of IAG, thus perfecting the performance. The performance which was reasonably a success was a result of a week of tough training and pleasurable torture from Sis Fairuz and the IAG Mainboard. It was also a result of serious guidance from Pak Dadang.
In brief, it is hoped that the members continue to give commitment and support towards the club and keep on improving for the better. Thank you.

Performance on Closing Ceremony Intervasity Golf Tournament 08

On 13th July IIUM Angklung Group performed for the Closing Ceremony of Intervasity Golf Tournament, organized by our own International Islamic University Malaysia. The event finally reached its finale after the two-day tournament being held by the organizer.
The cultural team, along with Percussion Group and Zapin team performed in front of the participants of the tournament representing the universities that took part in the competition and also IIUM Rector, Y. Bhg. Prof. Dato' Dr. Syed Arabi Idid before the prize-giving ceremony.
Playing 7 songs, accompanying the singer, Mohd. Aizat from Poetry Club, IIUM Angklung Group performed well that night, even though only 20 members took part for the show. Many changes had been made but still the members enjoyed the whole night's show and not to forget, the foods as well.
All in all, it is hoped that IIUM Angklung Group will keep the good job and keep on improving for the next performances. Credits to the new members of IIUM Angklung Group for their commitment to this show. Lastly, IAG blog crews wish you all the best.

It was called upon the IIUM Angklung Group one day before the night to perform for 30 minutes to the participants of Asian University Debating Championship Closing Ceremony.
So in a few hours before the show the members of the cultural group worked hard to give their best in the performance to the international students.
Playing 5 songs altogether, the angklung group began the night's dinner with medley When the Saints go Marching and You Are My Sunshine and it ended with We Are the Champion, before the floor was passed down to Dikir Acheh and performance by students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kerdas.
All in all, thank you for the last-minute participation from the angklung members. Blog crews would like to appreciate for your efforts and commitment for the group. Thank you.

29 angklung players instead of the requested number of 20 had performed for the Sports Unit Awards, and most of the members were the new ones, and only few of them were the seniors.
Guided by Bapak Dadang who came a bit late which creating goosebumps for the players, they played 9 songs in 30 minutes duration for the athletes celebrated that night.
Not forgetting the brothers from Percussion Group who came and did a favour to help the IAG members went through the performance; thanks to all of you.
And credits go to the new members of IAG. Even though it was so stressful during training with so Bapak's expectation, all of you did the job greatly. Well done to all and keep on improving the technics.
One thing to mention, though. IAG blog crews would love to thank to those who came and helped the team with the performance, even though they are not taking this short semester and some are doing practicals.

Solat Hajat and Grand Gathering

Last night, alongside with Percussion group, IIUM Angklung Group gathered the members of the club to perform Solat Hajat and Yaasin recitation at the new room.
The objective of the night is to introduce the Percussion Group to the new members of Angklung Group, close and personal.
The night began by a member of Percussion Group leading for Solat Maghrib and after that by our own VIP, Cikgu Ku Zahir Ku Ahmad for the Solat Hajat. Yaasin recitation happened just after Maghrib prayer before the Solatul Hajat.
Ice Breaking was led by the very own percussionist, Adam to introduce each and everyone involved for the night while waiting for Isya'.
And the meals were ready just after the prayer, and not long after that 2 cakes presented to all as a birthday celebration to the members of the club.
It was the last night for them to meet each other as after this everyone will be preparing for final exams.
All in all, IAG blog crews wish all of you best of luck for your final exam.

Performance on Student Grand Cocuricullum Award '07

Last night IIUM Angklung Club performed several songs for the Student Grand Cocuricullum Award '07, with the collaboration of Gamelan, Caklempong and Percussion groups.
Conducted by Bapak Dadang for the team's solo performance on We Are the Champion, many commented that that performance was quite messy, yet it was a bold risk for the team to try and did their best for the song.
However, the team's collaboration with other musical groups gained back the confidence in the team and thus, with our own Siti Fairuz Kawid as the conducter of the ending performance, each played well and the audience gave positive feedbacks on the show.
Overall, the show was not the critical point for IAG that night.
It was the Cultural Award that IIUM Angklung Group received on that night that made the night so memorable for the team.
Yes, IIUM ANGKLUNG GROUP has won the category of Cutural Awards on the Student Grand Cocuricullum Award 2007!
Other participants for the same category are Zapin Group and Gamelan Group, which are both strong in each achievements.
Nevertheless, the success is hoped will not end here. We hope that the team's achivement will continue to succeed and the team member will continue to give their full commitment and effort, Insya Allah.

Performance on Engitex Dinner '08

Despite of the pretty setting of the event last night, it is agreed by all IIUM Angklung Group that last night's performance involved by 28 new and old members of the musical group as the 'hottest' so far.

Wearing white did not help the performers at all during the show. It was a sweaty, crowdy show as there was no air conditioner at all in the Kuliyyah of Architecture Gallery where the event took place.

The group played songs 'Tanah Pusaka', 'Enjit-Enjit Semut', 'Edelwiess' and 'Poco-Poco'. However, the musical group grasped the attention of the audiences which gave the group the advantage to present to the public about angklung and the IIUM musical team.

Credits go to the new members of IAG. It is our pleasure to welcome all of you to the group and hopefully your commitment will stay with the club and together we bring our musical group to success, Insya Allah.

ISLAMIC PERFORMING ARTS CONCERT 08

Last night, 18 January 2008, IIUM Angklung Group, with the collaboration of Gamelan, Caklempong, Nasyid, Koir, Percussion, Zapin, Theatre groups and also musicians from Istana Budaya had performed for Islamic Performing Arts Concert 2008 (IPAC '08).
The Great Hall, Cultural Arts Centre was a full house with all the seats from below until the upper seats were filled with eager audiences, and they were excited as the concert started with its main show that night, a musical theatre 'ODYSSEY; A LEGACY'.

The musical theatre basically shows how International Islamic University Malaysia was built; how the idea was created by 'Che Det' and friends and how they struggle to make their dream come true.

And, after that, how Cultural and Arts Unit propose to succeed the program called 'IPAC', and how in the end the 'concert' succeeded.

Overall, it was not only the achievements of IIUM, but it was also about the Cultural and Arts Unit's success and dignity.

As for the performers, their hard work during trainings paid a lot last night, as the audiences were mesmerized by all the songs played during the musical theatre, thanks to the composer and music director of the show, cikgu Ku Zahir Ku Ahmad from Istana Budaya.
And to show appreciation to him, the crews of the program gave an appreciation calypso to him, without him knowing about it, at the very end of the show.

All in all, as for IAG itself, the show had gave them the opportunity to join such a big event for the year 2008.

Thanks for the commitment, and the experience of being as a part of the musical theatre will not be forgotten, Insya Allah.

With the theme colour,blue, the IIUM Angklung Group celebrated the very first time Barbeque Party yesterday, 5 January 2008. With the objective of strengthening the bond between the team new and old members, the small event took place at Riverside, Cultural Activity Centre, IIUM. With our own special guest,BapakDadang and family, Cikgu Ku Zahir and Norliza Che Hassan, that evening was enjoyable with its very own way. Even though the weather did not allow much to happen, except for the brief present-giving ceremony among the members, the evening was conducted very well, thanks to our own President who made sure for the barbeque party run smoothly and to the members who came early and willing to help.
And all in all, thank you for those who came. It is hoped that that evening will meet its objective; to bind everyone in IIUM Angklung Group as one, Insya Allah.

After 30-minute delay, the Annual Grand Meeting for IIUM Angklung Team 2007 started at 9 p.m. Conducted by Fiza Hanif as our MC, the meeting began with the recitation of Al-Fatihah and speech from the Programme Manager of the event, Sis. Adrisyawalia Che Din, and then from Sis. Satdiyatun as the President of IIUM Angklung Team.

The event ended with jovial raya festivities and Multimedia presentations showing picture slides and also our video during our visit to Bandung, Indonesia and during the competition.

Yesterday at CAC Hall IIUM, the Angklung Team had performed in front of many staffs and lecturers of the university for IIUM Shawwal Celebration 2007.
Not only the team, the 2-hour feast was also entertained by Caklempong, Zapin and Nasyid groups, accompanied by Cikgu Ku Zahir and his 4 collegues from Istana Budaya; each as a violinist, bassist, gambus player and percussionist.
That evening also were celebrated by not only IIUM workers, but also Tan Sri Sanusi Junid and wife and the rector of the university, Dr. Syed Arabi. The song Dia Datang accompanied the arrival of the VIPs .
And as the guests enjoying the meals provided, the performers continued with some various presentations from the beginning of the celebration until the end.
As for the IIUM Angklung Team, it was a challenging performance for them as the songs they played have real upbeat tempo that needs them to play fast, thanks to Cikgu Ku Zahir as he provided the scores for the team, except for Ketipang Payung.
All in all, many enjoyed the performances, including the team itself. Yet, there are so many improvements needed, including the presence of the members for training and their dicipline to follow the schedule. Or else, the show wouldn't succeed. Wallahu'alam.

9th September 2007, Saturday- It was a dream come true to IIUM Angklung Group when they at last arrived at Institute Technology of Bandung (ITB), Indonesia to compete with other several teams from Indonesia in Festival Paduan Angklung which was held 7th September until 9 September 2007.
The team reached Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta on 6th September before they continued the 3-hour journey to Bandung. The group then reached Perdana Wisata Hotel late at night.
7th September, before the group went to ITB Bandung they first went to Tangkuban Perahu, where there is an active volcano to be seen. It was such a beautiful scene and many were mesmerized with the surrounding. Only after that they left to ITB for sound-check and a couple of training there before they get ready for the competition the next day.
8th September, the competition started early in the morning with IIUM Angklung Team being the first team to go. Playing 3 songs; Terajana (compulsory), Poco-Poco, and medley Katipang Payung and Joget Pahang arranged by none other than Siti Fairuz Kawid who was also the conductor of the team they had put 110% effort to gain such an encouraging plause by the audiences and even a thumb-up from one of the juries. However, IAC did feel nervous when they watched other teams performing their parts which was so much better than the team itself.
Not long after the competition ended, the jury annouced the winners and surprisingly, IIUM ANGKLUNG TEAM got third place!! The result was very unexpected by the members themselves as they became speechless just after the announcement. Yet, some were very happy they could not help but smiling and laughing and even touched. So much trouble came and yes! The sacrifices were all paid at last!
So the night the team joined the concert Paduan Angklung where all the first winners from all categories had to perform back and also prize-giving ceremony to all the winners.
On 9th September, after the members spent their money on shopping at Pasar Baru, Bandung, they left the beautiful city with such heavy hearts to the capital city Jakarta, Indonesia where they stayed for another night and left Indonesia on evening 1oth September and came back to Malaysia.
It was such a great experiece for the team. And it is hoped that this will not be the last time IIUM Angklung Team join the competition which will be held two years later and if they are good enough at that time, who knows if they could get first place.
And IIUM Angklung Team would love to congratulate IIUM Zapin Team for they had won the third palce for Festival Zapin MAKUM '07 at IUTM Skudai, Johor. Together we bring IIUM name to the eyes of the nation. Congratulations to all.

20th August 2007, Monday-It was a 30-minute performance by IIUM Angklung Group in front of the participants of The Inaugural Malaysian Intervarsity Economics Debating Championship 2007 yesterday.
Only 13 members of IAC turned up to perform that night for the dinner performing various songs, including song that will be played during Festival Angklung at Bandung, Poco-Poco. It was also the very first time ever for Siti Fairuz conducting the group during the performance.
For the show itself, the team already practiced their way to move along while playing angklung. They had improved a lot in showmanship, even though there were minor mistakes. Some did complain that they felt a bit tired doing the movements, probably because of the meal they had before the show or maybe they still were not used to it. Nevertheless, the audience were so sporting, especially the VIPs who were said to like the song Pandang-Pandang Jeling-Jeling. The team also were given a loud applause from the viewers after the last song, Sejahtera Malaysia, thanks to the team who had to give full commitment during the training and the show itself.

29th July 2007, Sunday- Last night IIUM Angklung Club along with other cultural teams; Percussion, Zapin, Gamelan and Caklempong had performed in front of the pantun teams from universities around Malaysia and also not to forget, IIUM pantun team themselves.
Playing Lenggang Kangkung and Wau Bulan, the collaboration of all teams mentioned brought the audience to feel the old songs played in such a different, yet exciting and enjoyable beat, thanks to the trainer, cikgu Ku Zahir Ku Ahmad who had came along and conduct the teams, despite the technical difficulties and sound systems that were so lame.
And IAC team also celebrated one of the participants of IIUM Pantun team who is also a member of IIUM Angklung Club, Mohd. Farid. IIUM Pantun team actually reached the final round of the competition, competing with Universiti Putra Malaysia and even though the team only turned up to be the first runner up, but still their effort and spirit to uphold the name of the university should not be denied. Well done to the team and to the performers of the night's event.

24th June 2007, Sunday- The audience in IIUM CAC Hall was treated not only with delicious meal for their grand dinner of KAED Conference which was participated by many students majoring in Pure Achitecture from other universities and colleges near Kuala Lumpur, but they were also entertained by the songs IIUM Angklung Club members played.
Eight songs were performed by not more than 30 members and were conducted by IAC trainer, Bapak Dadang. Some members were not very happy with the performance; some said probably they were tired because they had to wake up early and go to Mini Auditourium for preparation for IAC Workshop thet happened next day and some even complained about the feedback from the audience itself that was not encouraging the performers to give their best shot.
Nonetheless, at the end of the day Bapak Dadang reminded us with some of his advices and the most important is that he was quite happy with the team's performance that night. He said there will be some mistakes while playing and that is normal but do not forget the parts that was played well.
All in all, the team already gave their best during the show and there should be nothing to regret after all. Well done to all.

15th May 2007, Tuesday-29 members of IAC had performed for International Conference of Islamic Economy Management at the top of Kuala Lumpur Tower. Some of the audiences were YB Tan Sri Sanusi Junid and IIUM Rector. Not forgetting IIUM Gamelan Group and Zapin team also joined the night's event.
Nothing much had happened for the night's show, except the songs that IAC group had to play were reduced form 10 songs into 5 songs because the group were given only 15 minutes to perform.
About the performance, IAC group played very well, especially for the new song, Rindu Bayangan. The audiences; almost of them were veterans and late adults were happy with the song. And also the international audiences were mesmerized with the sounds of bamboos and their feedback was very good.
All in all, despite of the disappointment of the numbers of songs that the group had played, at least the audiences enjoyed the performance, and that should give IAC team one good credit for their effort for the night's show.

13th May 2007, Sunday - Alongside with Caring Club, IIUM Angklung Club, together hand in hand joined a Community Service program at Rumah Kanak-Kanak Tengku Budriah, Cheras.
In this program, IAC team not only had to play songs to the children, but also helped the committees playing along with them. Divided into 3 groups; babies, toddlers and primary, many were not sure what to do at first. However, after some help from Caring Club commitees, they got along and starting to understand that the children are not the same as those outside the house.
It started at +9.00 a.m, the three groups went to each places and observed the children and babies, played along and helped them with their studies and education. The primaries, aged 7 until 12, played games on mathematics, with the commitees being their teachers.
IAC team performed for the enthusiastic children at +4.00 p.m. Playing songs like Enjit-Enjit Semut, Sejahtera Malaysia, Rasa Sayang and three medleys, the children did sing along. Our keyboardist, Fairuz also was requested to play some songs for them to sing, like Oh Ibu, Ya Rasulullah and Pencinta Wanita. Even though the team were threw down by some naughty audiences but they kept playing on the stage.
The program ended at 4.45 p.m, and after the children were given some small gifts everyone went back to IIUM. All in all, it was a good new experience, and it reminds us that we are so lucky to have such a beautiful family that love and care for us all the way.

20th April 2007, Friday- IAC along with other Cultural Arts and Units clubs had performed for Ta'aruf Week Cutural performance to celebrate newcomers of IIUM Gombak.
Conducted by Cikgu Ku Zahir, and managed by our stage manager, Azlan Shah we performed the chorus of Cindai for the opening of the night's event. Percussion, Gamelan, Caklempong and Zapin team performed as well along with IAC.
There was also a quick speech by Wahida as our speaker along with other clubs' representatives. She introduced a bit about what is angklung and about our trainer, Bapak Dadang.
After that, the show began with Caklempong, Silat Cekak Hanafi, Silat Helang Putih and Aikido. After Caklempong, Zapin performed with two songs; Zapin Beradat and Cindai before Gamelan's turn with their songs, Ayam Didik and Bujang Lapok. IIUM Angklung Club performed next with their songs Joget Pahang, Ketipang Payung and Enjit-Enjit Semut. Next was the collaboration of cultural groups; IAC, Gamelan, Caklempong and Zapin performing songs Lenggang Kangkung and Wau Bulan before the night's event ended precisely at 11 p.m.
We would like to say thank you to our new members of IAC; Difla, Wan and Aizat for your commitment in this club and for your patience of our crazy behaviours =)
Also, credits go to our beloved IAC members from Kuantan Campus; Jay, Safwan, Zaki, Mawi, Zubir and Farid for their efforts to come and join us. All in all, still there are a lot of things need to be improved, but the most important thing is we are always together-no matter what.

3rd March 2007- IAC team accompanying Gamelan group performed medley of Lenggang Kangkung and Wau Bulan for Opening Ceremony of MASUM, Majlis Sukan Antara Universiti Malaysia. IIUM is the host of the big event.
Conducted by Cikgu Ku Zahir, the night started by the sounds of percussion, and then Cak Doh Gong by Gamelan team. After that, Caklempong took place before Zapin team performed. Only after Zapin Angklung Team headed to the stage.
Probably that was the first time the team had 8 pages of music notes in front of them, so they had to make sure that it is well-prepared from page one until page 8. Plus, accompanying Gamelan for both songs was enjoyable, yet to catch up the speed was one challenge, but after plenty of trainings nights before that day, the team were able to play the songs well.
This is the last show for this semester. Since final examination is around the corner I would like to use this opportunity to wish you all the best and good luck to Kak Zakiah and Kak Zarith who will be leaving IIUM and Angklung Club this semester. Thank you for your commitment for this club and do not forget IAC team, ya!!

From 26th February until 2nd March 2007 IIUM Angklung Club along with Gamelan ,Caklempong, Percussion, Nasyid and Zapin groups were performing for IIUM Quality Day, starting from 3.30 p.m until 5 p.m.
Playing various of songs like Enjit-Enjit Semut, Joget Pahang, Rasa Sayang, medleys of kids' songs, Ketipang Payung and Ada Apa Denganmu, the team entertained the visitors while they were around at the CAC Banquet where there were booths about IIUM excellent achievements, even though most of them were just from IIUM itself.
Nonetheless, as if the teams performing are as united as one, they cheered to each others' performances. They clapped hands, as if they are the audiences and thus gave one good sign that every team here support one another.
And for IAC, there is nothing much to say; some performances were good but still have plenty to improve. But credits go to every members who gave their commitment to come and play even though they were already busy with classes and assignments.
And one last stop before the semester ends; Opening Ceremony of MASUM '07.

14 Feb, 2007, Wednesday- IAC last night had performed 6 songs for IIUM Arts Education and Aprreciation Week '07 or generally known as Cultural Week. This program started last Monday, 12 February 2007 and will end on 15 February 2007.The idea is to let every clubs under Cultural and Arts unit open for registration to all students of IIUM and to inform them about the fuctions of Cultural and Arts Unit in IIUM itself.For the show, even though the number of audiences were small, at least the weather was fine and the songs played very well despite the fact that the members had to catch up the quick beat of percussion. And since plenty of IAC members are involved in this program, so it was quite hectic when it comes to training because of lack of members.However, the show ran smoothly and not only IAC who performed last night but also Caklempong Group, Silat Cekak Hanafi and Aikido team.

29th January 2007- Last night IAC had performed Ulik Mayang and Wau Bulan for the opning ceremony of Nusantara Theaterical Week '07 at IIUM Main Auditorium. The show lasted only 5 minutes and were attended by almost 15 members of IIUM Angklung Club. The ceremony started with du'a and speeches from 2 VIPS. After that, at about 9 p.m IAC members performed in front of not so many audiences with very dim light, making it hard for IAC members to see the music notes.
However, even though there was a bit of mistake at the end of the song Wau Bulan, they performed quite well. The mistake was covered so well that no audience noticed about it. Not forgetting, credits go to everyone who joined last night's show. Thank you for your co-operation.
Lastly, after this IAC have to prepare for 2 big events; Angklung Club Live concert that will be held for almost 2 hours on this 5th February and Cultural Week. At this very crucial times, it is hoped that the members could give their best commitment to succeed these two events, Insya Allah.

8TH Jan. 2007, CAC IIUM- Despite rainy weather last night, IAC members performed 6 songs for Engitex '07. IAC was accompanied by Kak Nana, Kak Kiah and also Percussion Group led by Bro. Aswad.
The show entitled 'Simfoni Gamelan' began later than scheduled because of the weather, and IAC which was supposed to start the night had to wait until the rain stopped.
Meanwhile, Gamelan group began the night's performance with their songs; Gending Tiga Rasa conducted by Pak Djamal and Cak-Doh-Gongg conducted by Cikgu Zahir.
IAC started their performance with Edelwiess, followed by Ada Apa Denganmu, Joget Pahang, Cindai, Enjit-Enjit Semut, Pandang-Pandang Jeling-Jeling, and lastly Ketipang Payung.
Credits go to IAC's companies that night that made the show more lively, even though IAC members had to play in rain.
Generally speaking, last night performance was good, regardless of the bad weather, lack of audiences and no microphones at all. IAC members probably had hard time playing in the rain and enjoying themselves at first, but until the song, Ketipang Payung, with the help of the percussionists, they began to had fun, ending the night with satisfaction and excitement.

PERFORMANCE FOR TA'ARUF WEEK

Last night IAC, accompanied with Percussion Group, Gamelan, Caklempong, Band and Nasyid team had performed in front of 800 new students of IIUM. Team Zapin, Aikido, Silat Cekak Hanafi and Silat Helang Putih also joined the musical groups on the stage, following the ryhthm and melodies of the songs being played.
Led by Bro. Aswad, the night show started with Temasya, where every musical teams had collaborated. After martial art feats by both Silat groups, IAC's solo performance began with Ada Apa Denganmu, and then Pandang-Pandang Jeling-Jeling before continued with Caklempong group for Matsuri and Sakinah. The next shows went with Band and Zapin.
The song Cindai was carried on by Caklempong, Gamelan and Band. Since IAC members had to do nothing, they just enjoyed the song and moved just a bit in harmony. And the last song, I'tiraf went on with Nasyid team before they ended the night's program with salawat.
A special appreciation goes to Bro. Aswad who led IAC members, Zaki, Jay Hamzah and Asmawi who gave their last full commitment to the show and also for the team. Without all of you the show would probably be different from what everyone had had last night.
Not forgetting to every bureaus; PromArch, BUTEM, T-DEV and Costume and Performance who had done their job very well for this show, and to Mainboard team who had helped them a lot to make sure everything went as planned. Thanks to all who participated, and it is hoped that after this, this team will perform much better in the future.

PERFORMANCE AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF ICT IN MUSLIM WORLD

On 21 November 2006 IAC performed 12 full songs and 2 medleys for International Conference of ICT in Muslim World dinner at Grand Ballroom, Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Accompanied with a guitarist and Bro. Wan Malik, the vocalist the sounds of angklung filled the hall for about one hour. The audience who were also IIUM staffs and lecturers from Kuliyyah of ICT watched the performance from members of Angklung Club; some did concentrate but some did not for the only attention they gave was for food. And for IAC members, they did sing a bit in Song of Do Re Mi and Sejahtera Malaysia, and some did move a bit to the beat. Furthermore, the songs were all well-played, the Dean of Kuliyyah of ICT gave A++ to the performance and thus, well done to all!
It was quite a while since IAC had not been invited to such a place, so the members took this advantage to record and capture as many pictures as they want in the grand ballroom, especially after the guests and the lecturers gone. It was quite a moment, especially for those who will be leaving from IAC.
In bus on the way back to IIUM, the voices of IAC members sang Salam Terakhir and Bertemu Dan Berpisah. It was fun to hear the weird sounds they produced while singing the songs, but everyone knew that that night was not for long.
Maybe it was because of the ukhwah of IIUM Angklung Club members that makes it hard to forget the night. The highlight was not on the performance but the happiness everyone shared together as a team.

IAC INDUCTION COURSE: ‘MUSIC OF UNITY’

It has been a year since the program manager of this agenda, Bro. Mohd. Najib planned to organize this induction course for IAC members, and at last, at the very end of his days with IAC it came true last 17 November 2006. Located at Janda Baik, 45 minutes-drive from IIUM, more than 20 members of Angklung Club joined this very first induction course for this club. This program is in pursuance of discussion during the Annual General Meeting, thus allowing the new mainboard members to organize this 3-days-2-nights event.
In this induction course, the new board was taught about their task, what they have to do and what they should plan for this club and the members were technically trained to enhance the level of performances, both in theory and practice. This course's objectives are to improve self-confidence and relationships among the members of IAC, to explore and contribute ideas and opinions among newly appointed board members and the previous board members and to gather IAC members as a big family to develop collective participation and cooperation through activities.
The members who participated arrived at Janda Baik at 7.00 p.m. After they had their dinner and prayers the course started with Ice Breaking session, or in other word, Ta’aruf.
Bro. Najib himself directed the program, and he asked each of them to at first draw the shape of a face on an A4 paper and then goes around to other members and asks them to draw any parts of the body and complete it as a whole, while asking 2 questions about anything to them. In this way each of them got to know each other in a very casual and simple way. After that, Bro. Najib asked the participants to write in a piece of paper 3 things about them; only one thing that is true and the others are wrong. After he had collected every pieces of paper, he selected one and shouted out the three things, and the participants had to guess who wrote it. From here, the participants were introduced to a bit of one’s personal life in a very funny approach (now everyone knew who cikgu Ramlah is).
The next day, after Subh prayer, in Activate Your Life! session the participants were conducted by Bro. Najib and learnt about ‘poncho-poncho’, one way of exercise, just like aerobic. Following a song titled ‘Madu Dan Racun’ which is also a song that IAC members have to play on 21 November 2006 for International Conference of ICT in Muslim World, they followed the steps taught by him while enjoying the song. In fact, each of them began to like ‘poncho-poncho’ and the song as well! After breakfast was for training session and only after 11 a.m the real game began where 3 groups were divided and each of the groups had to choose 2 envelopes with music notes in it. They had to create their own group name (DEEVA, HATI PECAH BERDERAI and BLUE KELLY)
with a trademark and together they had to convert the standard music notes into Angklung music notes which are very different from the real one and play the songs with angklung for the next mini-concert. It would be much easier if they know the title of the songs, but they had no clue about these songs they had to convert. Here they learnt how difficult to adapt music notes for new songs and they practically make use of what they have learnt from Bapak Dadang and Fairuz before.
At night, the participants partook in SWOT analysis. SWOT means ‘Strength, Weakness, Opportunity Threat’. In this session the accomplices played their part as the members of IAC giving their opinion and ideas for the future of this club. Each bureaus presented their missions, visions and job scope.
On the last day of this course, after Subuh prayer, everyone listened to Kuliyyah Subuh by the owner of the place they stayed in, who is also a writer. After breakfast and refreshment, everyone gathered for POA session (Plan Of Action). Here every bureau and also main board members started planning about what they are going to do for the next semester and future before they were allowed to start practicing for mini-concert. After about 40 minutes, the mini-concert began with group DEEVA playing only one song, Pretty Boy. And then Blue Kelly with Because of You and One Love and lastly, Hati Pecah Berderai with Untitled and So Yesterday. Everyone enjoyed the fun, even though each of every group competed with each other.
The course was ended by Sis. Norliza Chek Hassan, the Ass. Director of Cultural and Arts Unit S-Dev, IIUM. The winner was announced, and the first place goes to DEEVA!! Second place; BLUE KELLY and third place is HATI PECAH BERDERAI.
The participants went back to IIUM only after 'Asr because of some difficulty, but everyone arrived safe and sound.
This agenda is hoped to be an annual program for IAC for it is very important to strengthen the ukhwah between the members of IAC and to improve self-confidence and knowledge for better performances. Congratulations to all organizing committees, especially to the program manager for making this program a real fun for all. Thank you.

IIUM ANGKLUNG CLUB ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

An annual general meeting of IAC was held at the Kuliyyah of Human Science last Friday. The rationale of this meeting for IAC members is to elect those who are apt to hold the responsibilities and to ensure the development of this cultural club. Although not all who had came, but the gathering was running smoothly, starting from a special speech from the guest of the event, Kak Maswa, IAC financial report, previous AGM report and the climax of the meeting, the election for Mainboard and Bureau recruits.
However, on that day the members did not have much time to elect for Bureau committees for they were all need to end the session before Jumaat prayer, thus those who had been chosen to be the Mainboard members had to do the job to select who should bear the responsibilities.

What is Angklung?

Gamelan angklung (angklung) is a style of gamelan ensemble found primarily in Bali, Indonesia. Angklung is also the name of a bamboo musical instrument, popular throughout Southeast Asia, from which the ensemble gets its name but only occasionally employs.

The musical instrument called angklung is made out of two bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The tubes are carved so that they have a resonant pitch when struck. The two tubes are tuned to octaves. The base of the frame is held with one hand while the other hand shakes the instrument rapidly from side to side. This causes a rapidly repeating note to sound. Thus each of three or more angklung performers in an ensemble will play just one note and together complete melodies is produced.

Balinese Gamelan Angklung is an ensemble of mostly bronze metallophones. The instruments are tuned to a 5-tone slendro scale. While the ensemble gets its name from the bamboo shakers, these days most compositions for Gamelan Angklung do not use them.

Angklung gets more international attention when in 1938 Daeng Soetigna, from Bandung - West Java, expanded the angklung notations not only to play traditional pélog or sléndro scales, but also diatonic scale. Since then, angklung is often played together with other western music instrument in an orchestra. One of the first well-known performances of angklung in orchestra was during the Bandung Conference in 1955. A few years later, Udjo Ngalagena, a student of Daeng Soetigna, opened his "Saung Angklung" (Angklung's House) in 1966 as centre of its development.

Despite the fact that not many turned up at last night's Angklung training, we celebrated our Augustians and Septemberians with fun and joy. Although some (who did come to the training session) were feeling unsatisfied and disturbed with other musical group's training in the same room, but it did not distract the party in the end.
So for those who were celebrated last night, congratulations!! Another year to live, you guys should be thankful.
And for the members who had bought all the foods and drinks (you know who you are), thank you so much! We went back to our mahallat with our stomach full.
For the super-seniors, especially Bro. Najib who was the only one who came, thank you for everything. Don't forget us, always remember IIUM Angklung Club and we appreciate all the teachings you guys taught to us. Thank you so much.
For the Sciences students who will be going to Kuantan Campus next semester, also do not forget us. One day we will come to your place and open a new IAC there, you guys must participate. Do not waste your talent, ya!
Last, but not least, HAPPY FASTING!! Don't forget to perform tarawih and qiamullail. We will still have our training session, but it will be in the evening before breakfast, somewhere around 5 p.m until 6.30 p.m, ok?!

August 30th 2006, IIUM- In about one hour before Malaysia celebrated the 49th Year of Independence, IAC performed two songs, Jalur Gemilang and Sejahtera Malaysia in IIUM Male's Sport Complex.
Days before, on August 26th IAC also had to perform at the riverside of CAC on the first day of IIUM Convocation Day to entertain the students' parents and relatives who were waiting their sons and daughters outside with the songs Puji-Pujian, I'tiraf and Enjit-Enjit Semut. On August 28th again IAC had to go to the Convest Hill and performed Enjit-Enjit Semut, medley of Song of Do Re Mi, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Happy Family and London Bridge and lastly, Edelwiess. Both had two similarities; we played Enjit-Enjit Semut and we had a very small numbers of audiences! So we played and had fun as well!!
And to be honest, for this Ambang Merdeka celebration, most of us had lost our energies for our last three consecutive performances. However, we should give some credits to ourselves who, no matter how tired we were, we still were committed to this last show of this month!
Say thanks to Abang Najib who were conducted us for tonight. And not to forget, Sarah who were our conductor at Convest Hill (26th August). Size is not the matter eh? Plus, to the new members of IAC, thank you so much for your participations, even though some of you had to sacrifice your time for angklung practices and exams. To the senior members, congatulations for bringing this club up to this level. 4 performances in one month, wow!! You guys should be proud!!
Don't worry, even though mistakes happened and we could not play Tanggal 31 because of lack of practice, but no one knows, right? Especially the audiences, most of them enjoyed our performance despite of the sounds was not clear enough for them to really listen to the sounds of angklungs. Even we the players could not hear well.
Nevertheless, the night was great. The countdown was cool and the fire crakers were da' bomb (even though some may said, 'they are burning our money!!! RM12,000, RM20,000!!!')
Not to forget, our beloved friend, Zaki who is going to leave this team. Tonight was his last participation and 'no more angklung after this', he said. Not only him, but at the end of this semester, we have to bid goodbye to A. Jay, Kak Wani, and A. Safwan as they are among Scieces students who have to move to Kuantan Campus. Thank you very much guys..Don't forget IAC and good luck in whatever you do!! Thank you so much for your commitments, we here really appreciate it. *sob sob*
Finally, from me, I would like to say 'Happy Holiday' and 'Happy Independence Day'. May our country will be blessed always with Allah's Grace, Insya Allah.

report: opening ceremony of iium convest '06

August 24th, 2006, IIUM- IAC yesterday had to perform only two songs, Enjit-Enjit Semut and Joget Pahang just for a few minutes, even though from what I heard, they requested the team to perform more songs since a band had to quit at the very last minute.
It was quite a cool night at Convest Hill. The opening started with some sort of drama on the stage with the terrorists and the saviors who save the day (even though it is wierd to see they wearing scout's uniform). And suddenly, it's our turn!! What's more, we did not say du'a before we went onto the stage! And that's the first time.
What else??
We had to stand on the stage for I think ten minutes because we were the second performer after the other band (not the band I mentioned earlier). Nonetheless, I think it was cool when I listened to the techno sound collaborated with that Australian didjeridu (don't know how to pronounce it).
After two long songs, then it's our turn. The stage is small and I don't understand until now why they did not bring the drumset down the stage?? Because we had to share the stage along with nasyid group and the techno band, so OBVIOUSLY the stage became small! And we lacked of microphones, so we cannot hear other sounds (because playing angklung needs one to listen to others so that he knows where to play and where not to play).
It was a struggling effort just to stand there for ten minutes and then play in about 5 minutes with a bit of change in our plan. But, from what I saw, the audience loved our Enjit-Enjit Semut.
And thanks for everyone who supported us, including some members of the New Team (to Zaki and friends, thank you for your help and comment!!) also to our friends who just came and see us. We really feel appreciated.
No comment for Joget Pahang. All I can say, it was a bit hectic when we did not play according to what we had practiced so it's quite understandable. And we could always improve after this. 3 more perfomances to go.
Phew, IAC is really popular nowadays, don't you think?? =)

August 14th, 2006, IIUM- After more than a month IIUM Angklung Club team members did not perform any shows or festivals, at last yesterday they broke the Sunday morning's silence with Raihan's I'tiraf, Ching Ai and Puji-Pujian as they celebrated the Closing Ceremony of IIUM Musabaqah Competition at CAC hall.
The celebration started with the sweet voices of marhaban, salawat and prayers to Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), then went on with the speeches of the VIPs. Not long after that, the team of 20 members entered the hall from behind. All eyes were on them as they walked on the isle. The nerve continued when they had to stand on the stage which was located at the very front of the VIPs.
After the introduction, we, conducted by Wahida started off with I'tiraf (which was clumsily opened by Fairuz's keyboard instead of angklung) before Ching Ai and finally Puji-Pujian. Hmm, a bit too nervous eh? Nothing much to say, since the performance was good apart from the mistakes and lack of smiles and movements, like this guy,myadlan said in his blog,

"Overall, I've spectated angklung performance few times and what can they do in order to improve? I think besides shaking the angklung, they can have some body gestures. Dance to the tune. I bet its gonna be better because performer = artist = should know how to express their feelings. Either angklung or any other music band, the same rules apply!"

Thanks for your comment! and the others who commented us after the performances..We really appreciate that.

Yeah, we actually planned for some singing and formations but it is a last minute change that we cannot do so because of the stage (too small for us). Improvement in progress.. and it's all depends on each of the IAC members to try harder for better performance next time..no..next week! yeah..three more to go.

And a special appreciation also goes to the new members of Angklung team. Yesterday was their first performance, and they played well! Thank you for all your efforts and commitments despite of the difficulties on place and practice time.
Also not to forget, the seniors. Even though there was no super-senior involved but they managed it!! Congratulations!!
Of course, people make mistakes. After this, hope they will do much better than this show. And as for me, thank you so much to all of you. You guys made me laugh so much, haha!!

Anyway, 'no rain, can't get the rainbow', right?

You know, you always have to be patient with technology. Gosh, it's tiring...
Anyway, I was uploading another version Bengawan Solo that seemed like forever!! This one is from a CD, from Wani (thanks a lot!!!) the name; ANGKLUNG AND ORCHESTRA played by Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and Hans and his Angklung Ensemble. So from the name I think the songs, which are Indonesian songs are played by Chinese!

To Farah and Azie, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO YOU, GIRLS!! I know, it's a bit late, but hey! At least you were celebrated by all =) *feeling jeles a bit*
Anyway, they were celebrated just now, after our practice on Bengawan Solo, Jalur Gemilang plus Pandang2 Jeling2.
Especially for the song Pandang2 Jeling2, actually I was surprised!! We did it well.
Well here doesn't mean perfect, but it's a hard song, and I think we played good because we had enough people to play the angklungs tonight. So keep up your good work!! And to all Angklungians, keep on coming to practice, keep on playing, and keep on smiling. I understand our songs are a bit tough, especially for the juniors and me, but "HARDWORK CAN PASS GENIUSES!!"- quote from Rock Lee in Naruto ^_^ (want to know who's Rock Lee and why he said that, watch Narutola, ayoyo!)

And this is an announcement.
If you want to download the two songs (Edelwiess and Bengawan Solo), don't go to ITD Lab, Library Lab or your department Computer Lab. This is because some of the PCs there won't allow any downloads and if they do allow, it's going to take more than an hour!! So go to CC. It'll cost you a bit, but it already cost me as twice as yours, haha!!
It'll only take at least 20-30 minutes maximum. And if that's your final resort, and it still troubles you, then I'll send the file to you all. I already checked and tried it myself, and I got no problem.

OK, now I'm feeling soooooooooo excited!!!!
I found this perfect choir voices of Bengawan Solo. At first I thought, 'nah, this wouldn't fit' because it was sang in group (I think it's a Singaporean choir group) but you know what, I WAS SOOOOO WRONG!!
Now I'm listening to it, it gives me a real goosebumps, meaning that this one is veryX10 great!!!
Now I'm telling ya, find a big headspeaker and listen!! It is sooo cool (oh my God, I never thought I would love this song this way)

Perfecto!! as what I expected, Wawachan already posted yesterday's event here.. It was fun and I just love yesterday's family day. Eventhough less than twenty angklungians attended it, but I saluted those who came and went back all wet after the Eplorace. Well, I was one of the committee (Prep and Tech) and I guess I'm still tired of going out the day before that I did not join any games but to be the committe who handle the games. The photos during Family day will be posted here soon..

IIUM CULTURAL UNIT FAMILY DAY

So today we had some fun with other cultural clubs' members (Gamelan, Chak Lempong, Dikir Barat), since this Family Day today was organized by IIUM Cultural Unit (if I'm not mistaken) and our attendance was compulsory (even later I noticed not many of us came).

Anyway, the day began at 9.30 a.m at Ragbi Field, Men's Sport Complex with the recitation of Al-Fatihah and a short speech from a guy I don't really know his name (I'm suck in remembering names, sorry). The first game we played is FUTSAL 'ala-ala pelikat dan batik'. But before that we were appointed to groups 1 to 5. Of course, each group will be 'campur-campur' team, meaning Gamelan+Chak Lempong+Angklung+Dikir Barat members in one. I was appointed to group 2, but my FUTSAL team did not win the match. Too bad...

After semi-final Futsal match, we continued with Sukaneka!!! For some times we had to be kids again playing around the field. 4 games for this one; the first one is I think 'Bola Pening' 0_o, I really forgot its name. Anyway, for this game my team won =) Then, 'Isi Air Dalam Botol' by just using our palms in three minutes to fill the mineral water bottle. This game was won by team 1 (mine got second place). Next is 'Kupas Kuaci ala Halaqah' which the whole team had to work as a team, of course- to work out the way to 'kupas' the kuaci by hands ONLY. I forgot which team won, because I was already feel tired. The last game is 'Belon King and Belon Queen'; this individual game needs you to protect your own balloon that you tied at your---'betis'--- from others that might blow your balloon. The last one who survived win the competition, and fortunately the King of Balloon for today is from Angklung Club, although he had a good fight with Abang Najib who was unfortunately lost. And the queen is from Gamelan Club.
At noon, even though the weather did not seem so bright and nice, the Family Day went on with FUTSAL FINAL. The team that won the 'cup' is Group 3!!! Congrats!! Seemed like the batik that they wore brought some luck to them. Haha...

Then, just before the rain came down pouring, the fun kept on going with Explorace. I had no idea what they played along the 5 checkpoints because I did not join my team. Lack of energy.
And yes, they had to play in rain, all wet.

For some reasons I forgot a lot of things along today's Family Day. I am so sorry, but believe me, today was fun!! Probably I was lacked of sleep last Saturday night and today morning I was soo sleepy. So I need your help to edit or make your own version of report here. Or Fairuz could edit this one for me, hehe...
And the fun ended after we retrieved our prizes. I got the first lucky draw ever in my life. Today my lucky number was 054, haha...

Nevertheless, no fighting-fighting for today, right?? Probably that's a good sign, who knows??
